The effects of sulfur powder are relatively slow, usually taking several months to see noticeable changes; therefore, it is recommended to add it at least one year before planting.
2. Using Aluminum Sulfate: Aluminum sulfate is a chemical that quickly lowers soil pH. Once dissolved in the soil, it rapidly releases acidic substances, thereby lowering the soil pH.
The amount used also depends on the soil texture and the current pH level. Typically, 300-600 grams of aluminum sulfate per square meter is needed to lower the pH by one unit.
Aluminum sulfate works quickly, but excessive use may lead to excessive aluminum ions, which can harm plants.
3. Use acidic fertilizers: Acidic fertilizers such as ammonium sulfate, ammonium chloride, potassium chloride, and potassium sulfide can lower soil pH.
These fertilizers not only provide plants with the necessary nutrients but also lower soil pH by releasing acidic substances.
When using them, pay attention to the concentration and amount to avoid harming the plants.
4. Plant green manure: Planting green manure plants, such as legumes, can increase soil organic matter content and improve soil structure, thereby lowering soil pH.
Green manure plants release organic acids during their growth, which can lower soil pH.
Green manure plants can also increase the activity of microorganisms in the soil, contributing to soil acidification.
5. Use peat moss: Peat moss is a natural acidic substance that can be used to lower soil pH.
Peat moss typically has a pH between 3.8 and 4.8, making it strongly acidic. Mixing it into the soil can gradually lower the soil pH.
When using peat moss, pay attention to the amount used to avoid over-acidifying the soil.
6. Use organic acids: Organic acids such as citric acid and acetic acid can be applied directly to the soil to reduce soil irritation.
