Dust production and hazards

Dust is an open, mixed source of pollution that enters the atmosphere due to dust on the ground driven by wind, human driven and other driven flyers. It is the main pollutant of atmospheric pollution.

Dust can be generated in a variety of ways. Construction dust is generated on construction sites due to excavation and transportation, removal of construction waste, burning of asphalt, etc. The composition of dust consists of three components: fallout (particle size >100µm), drifting dust (particle size 10-100µm) and respirable particulate matter (particle size <10µm).

Because of its generally small particle size, dust tends to cover the surface of plant leaves when floating in the air, preventing photosynthesis from taking place. The dust also has a large specific surface area and, when contaminated, tends to attach large amounts of toxic substances (Cr, Hg, As, etc.). This is not only very damaging to the ecosystem, but also a threat to human health.

The hazards of dust

As construction dust is mostly fine particulate matter, the main components of construction dust are non-metallic oxides and sulphides. Due to the high concentration of dust in the air, it flows with the air under the influence of man-made construction activities and natural wind conditions. The dust, due to its very small particle size, can cause plants to wither and die when adsorbed on their surfaces, and can cause poisoning to humans and animals if they accidentally eat it.

The dust content in the air is so high that when natural precipitation occurs, it can also form corrosive acid rain, which is undoubtedly disastrous for the growth of plants and can corrode buildings, trees, etc. When particulate matter enters the human body, due to the chemical nature of the dust, this will cause a series of diseases in the human body and even endanger human life.

The damage caused by construction dust to human life and the construction company is obvious and enormous. Therefore, when construction sites are under construction, dust monitoring equipment must be installed to monitor the dust concentration in real time and to take protective measures to ensure that the lives and health of the workers and the surrounding environment are not polluted.
