The effect of illumination on flowers

 In winter, when flowers are more prone to frost damage, adequate light is very important for flowers and can have a significant impact on winter flowers. Adequate light conditions play a vital role in the growth of flowers.

 

As we all know, plants have to photosynthesise, so flowers cannot grow properly without sufficient light. Light is one of the most important influences on the growth and development of flowers, and is the key to the survival of green plants.

 


The light requirements of flowers are divided into species and different flowers have different light requirements. However, the intensity of light varies according to geographical location and season. The higher the latitude, the weaker the light; the lower the latitude, the stronger the light. The intensity of sunlight is higher in summer and lower in winter. Therefore, depending on the intensity of light and the need for light, flowers can be broadly classified into 3 categories: masculine, neutral and feminine flowers.


Firstly, light has a great influence on the growth of flowers. Without light, flowering plants cannot photosynthesise and lack nutrients and energy, so light intensity is a limiting factor for flower growth. Light also affects the ornamental effect of flowering plants. Without a certain amount of light, foliage plants will not develop colour and markings. Light also affects the ornamental life of flowers, and without the right light, the foliage tends to yellow.


Secondly, light also has a great influence on flowering. Generally speaking, on the same flower, branches that receive sufficient light will form more flower buds; branches that do not receive enough light will have fewer flower buds and fewer flowers in the future. While the light requirements are met, the length of daylight also has a very strong influence on flowering. This is because flowers require a certain length of daylight for bud differentiation, and only if this prerequisite is met can flowers flower successfully.


Therefore, if growers choose to grow flowers in a greenhouse, they can choose an illumination sensor to monitor the light intensity in real time to ensure that the flowers thrive.
